Inhaling Coffee

I almost inhaled my coffee the other day when I saw the article 'Is Sweden falling apart' (Faller Sverige isär?) in the Scanian newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad (HD).

I cannot even remember when I last saw such a flamboyant regional Scanian/Øresund sentiment in a Scanian newspaper.

The 'normal' situation is, sadly, an oppressive Swedish media coming from the north and, not the least, coming from within Scania itself.

The owners of the media are joining forces with the Swedish centralistic propaganda and a disproportionate amount of journalists are not from Scania to start with. How can they even begin to have a feeling for Scania and the Scanian people?

The answer is; they cannot, and they should not be expected to. They are merely fed anti-Scanian/Danish sentiments from childhood stemming from deep inside the Swedish soul (Reading tip; see the Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg or go directly to sources such as “Karlskrönikan”, “Johannes Magnus och Hemming Gadhs predikningar”, “Brunkebergsvisan”, the Swedish poets Erik Lindschöld and Georg Stiernhielm and Latin professor Johan Lundblad).

The 'foreign report'- feeling often coming from so called local media in Scania is therefore not accidental. It might not always be deliberate but the journalists are simply not realizing that they are reporting in this way, over and over again (example 1).

The saddest part is that Scanians help to pay for this coverage as well, directly and indirectly through taxation, fees and regretably even voluntarily. That is how it has been for a very long time and that is what people are used to.

It is truly an absurd reality we are living in, in Scania and in the Øresund region.
