Moving a Statue

Within just a couple of days of each other there have been 'statue-moving' reports in the Scanian blogosphere about the two most infamous Swedish victory monuments in Scania.
  1. Magnus Stenbock statue on the main square 'Stortorget' i Helsingborg (Image)
  2. Charles X Gustav of Sweden (Karl X Gustav) statue on the main square 'Stortorget' in Malmø (Video clip)
Friskyttekompaniet is reporting in 'Årets aprilskämt', with a certain amount of irony and dismay, about the Magnus Stenbock statue, especially about HD's plausible candidate to The April's Fool of the Year Award.

In reality, HD's joke is a reinvention of the stunt HD itself pulled 10 years ago. They obviously do not think that people can think that far back in Scania.

I essence, although HD probably already disqualified themselves by reusing old ideas, they are actually spot on if they were considering it as a serious idea. Let the hated man retire somewhere where he does not offend his Scanian victims or Danish neighbors anymore.

Lilly Severin is reporting in 'Weimar-tillstånd i Europa' about the other statue; Charles X Gustav of Sweden and the proposed renovation of Stortorget i Malmø despite the negative economical situation in the city.

Many people want the statue to be gone (1, 2) but the government in Malmø pretends they are not only immune to Scanian sentiments and unaware of Danish/Scanian/Malmø history but also nearly deaf.

However, a small light in the tunnel could be that the statue is moved within the square to a less prominent position and that the pedestal might be lowered. On the other hand it then becomes a sort of 'Southpark rationale' in the same manner as if the Magnus Stenbock statue in Helsingborg would be somehow 'less wrong' with a beer bottle in his hand (vividly pointed out by Friskyttekompaniet).

In the chat afterwards Anders Kling in the Stockholm-based (no surprise now is it?) design company, admits that one of the basic demands for the square renovation entries, stemming from the politicians in Malmø, was that the statue had to stay on the square. Thus totally disregarding the massive public objections in Malmø and Scania.

That is Swedish democracy in Skåne at its best!

In any case, I believe the removal of 'hypersvecism'-statues when I see it (see video clip for explanation of the term).

All reports until then are regarded as smoke screens.
