The Milk War in Scania

The recent decision from COOP to stop selling Scanian milk in Scania has created a uproar among Scanian households.

1. Newspapers

A quick Google search gives several hits on the development of the Milk War in Scania (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 etc.)

Arla already won the milk war in Denmark several years ago at the expense of the local dairies and now have about 95% of the Danish market. A almost monopolistic situation.

Arla are at the moment aiming to expand in the same manner into Finland (1, etc.).

Elsewhere in Sweden, Citygross took back their decision in the Swedish county of Dalarna (1, etc.) and right now even in Scania (1, etc.) after a long struggle.

COOP trying to act as they have been backing down in Dalarna (1, 2, 3 etc.), in Gävleborg (1, etc.) and in Scania recently but it is mainly a smoke-screen.

Netto and Lidl still refuses to sell Scanian milk in Scania.


2. Web TV

As customary the Swedish centralistic-state-TV (SVT) reported in a foreign-report manner (including a Non-scanian reporter) on Sydnytt, the so called local news program with the title: 'Infected milk battle continues'. Needless to say the report was biased towards Arla in many ways.

It also shows how little understanding the COOP-member organisation Solidar has for their members in Scania (in Scanian/Swedish).

A partial concession was made by COOP in their strategy of trying to dupe the Scanian public (in Scanian/Swedish):


3. Web Radio

Malte Lindborg, chairman for local section of the largest senior citizen organization in Sweden (Pensionärernas riksorganisation (PRO) in Malmö) says: ”I have drunk Scanian milk for 78 years, I want to continue with it” (in Scanian)

4. Protest lists

Till: COOP, Bergendahls, Netto, Lidl, Willys, Hemköp, ICA

Vi kräver att COOP, Bergendahls, Netto, Lidl m.fl. omprövar sina beslut och omgående börjar sälja det fulla sortimentet av närproducerad skånsk mjölk och mjölkprodukter i sina butiker.

För de kvarvarande butiker och kedjor som har planer att göra samma nummer som ovanstående livsmedelsföretag. Det här är enbart en påminnelse om vem det är som handlar i Era butiker.
